When the remake came along, decades after the original straight-to-VHS cult classic, fans all complained that CGI had ruined the horror of the monsters. They cited the false smoothness of what had been ragged flesh and horns rubbed into blades against rocks, how the new production company had sandblasted off all the gritty realness. In defense of the production company, they had no idea they were attempting to recreate what had been a grim documentary, and were unwittingly hindered by the hard-won extermination of the once very real monsters.
