I've always been enchanted by the bit of Japanese folklore wherein objects that live to 100 years gain a spirit, among other similar stories about sentient/haunted objects. Between that and my personal intense attachment to familiar objects, I want to believe that all of them are a little bit alive.

I just read "Guardian" in which a bowl belonging to some sage acquired sentience - I didn't realise it was a common myth! To be honest, I have enough to do, what with trying to avoid harm to things I KNOW are sentient, without worrying about every bowl, lamp and vase!
