“I’m looking for a flavor,” she said when the last customers had cleared away from the candy store counter, “or rather a scent.” Jamil recognized her, from the informal gatherings of makers around town, as a perfumer, and he expected her to request one of the exotic candy flavors he had developed in the store. Instead she said, “Your candy rollers are the only source of Victorian-era brass I’ve been able to find, and I just can’t get this Irene Adler-themed perfume right without it.”
