Done This Week
May. 28th, 2023 06:34 amYeah, so, why wait around when you can get the bad times started right away? Leaving!Assistant was out the whole week, apart from three hours in which he was visibly and grossly unwell before going home again. So fine, whatever, we'll kick off the "Jay is secretly three people in a trenchcoat" era early. Perfect.
I have to keep reminding myself, though, that this week also contained one of the singularly best moments of my life. Overnight, they catastrophically fucked up a robot and deleted its programming entirely. The only two engineers familiar with it were going to be out for multiple days. So I...recoded it.
Um. *\o/*
Was I technically authorized to do this? Possibly not. But it's a very simple robot, and I've been teaching myself scraps of various coding languages since I was 13 on web 1.0. It wasn't exactly hard to suss out the logic of where and how to write a new program.
Did I jump up and shout and spin in circles in delight when I succeeded in recreating the program and getting it running again? Fuck yeah, I did! I was loud and chaotic and practically giving off visible light, I was so happy.
I do, actually, really love my job. I'm just less enthused about doing two other people's jobs at the same time. This does not seem like an unreasonable concern.
Lewisia: 1 new piece, plus another bonus piece written--gotta play catch-up this next week
Day job: 42.5 hours, an entirely brutal week and leaving for an hour to get bloodwork done was my own reprieve
Gardening: first day of the succulent club show and sale, working as a cashier, bought three new succulents (I'm weak...)
Listening: The Anthology by Inkubus Sukkubus (pagan goth nostalgia sublime, and isn't it novel to listen to copies that aren't glitched out from file sharing program errors from the early oughts?), Monsters by The Midnight (wish I could remember how I found out about this, but I suspect it was in an author's note on a Stranger Things fic, funky, vaporwave-ish synth stuff, totally love it)
